The rule, aligned with Nigeria’s aviation authority and global safety standards, aims to prevent thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries, which can cause dangerous, hard-to-extinguish fires at altitude. Power banks over 160Wh are prohibited, those between 100Wh and 160Wh need approval, and devices under 100Wh are allowed without restriction. The airline emphasizes the move enhances safety amid growing concerns over in-flight battery incidents.
