Ghana’s MP accuses Foreign Minister of trading ECOWAS leadership for AU chair support, calling the deal unnecessary and damaging.
Ghana’s MP Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh has accused Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of sacrificing Ghana’s opportunity to lead the ECOWAS Commission in exchange for a pledge of support for President John Mahama’s 2027 African Union Chairmanship.

He criticized the minister for failing to secure a four-year ECOWAS presidency, which could have strengthened Ghana’s regional influence, and claimed the decision harmed long-term diplomatic strategy.
