A former Oxfordshire cop got a suspended jail sentence for abusing his power in a secret romance with a woman he was investigating.
A former Oxfordshire police officer, Ian Dring, 50, was given a suspended 11-month prison sentence, 100 hours of unpaid work, rehabilitation, a mental health requirement, and a £1,000 costs order after pleading guilty to abusing his position by having a romantic relationship with a victim he was investigating.
The misconduct occurred between September 2022 and March 2023 during an Abingdon case, despite Dring failing to disclose the relationship.
He was arrested in May 2023, charged in August 2024, dismissed in July 2024, and his trial moved to Luton Crown Court for impartiality.
Thames Valley Police confirmed they hold officers to high standards, noting Dring had previously won a community service award in 2014.
The case was heard in private to protect ongoing legal matters.
