Former Lumberton Township Mayor Gina LaPlaca, 46, pleaded guilty on March 3, 2026, to driving under the influence and child abuse after a March 2025 incident in which she was arrested for driving drunk with her toddler in the car, swerving and nearly hitting a utility pole.
Her blood alcohol level was .30%, more than three times New Jersey’s legal limit.
As part of a three-year pretrial intervention program, she must attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, comply with supervision, and has already installed an ignition interlock device.
She has completed alcohol treatment and expressed remorse, stating she broke public trust.
Her mayoral term ended in December 2025, but she remains on the township committee.
