Shakir Khan, a former Lodi city councilman, was sentenced to three years in San Joaquin County Jail after pleading no contest to 71 felonies and six misdemeanors tied to election fraud, illegal gambling, money laundering, tax evasion, and fraudulent unemployment claims.
The charges stemmed from actions during the 2020 and 2022 elections, including storing 41 ballots at his home and registering 70 voters using his contact information.
A portion of his sentence is suspended, with an additional eight-year prison term stayed pending supervision conditions.
District Attorney Ron Freitas stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of elections.
