A former coach worker got a suspended jail sentence for crashing an 18-tonne bus into his ex-boyfriend’s flat, causing £45,000 in damage.
Ian Anderson, 33, a former Liberty Coaches yardman from Northumberland, received a 12-month suspended prison sentence after crashing an 18-tonne coach into his ex-boyfriend’s flat in Ashington in January 2025.
The incident, which followed the end of their seven-year relationship, caused over £45,000 in damage and prompted a two-year driving ban, a £1,000 compensation order, and a restraining order.
Anderson admitted to aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, and criminal damage, claiming he sought to embarrass his ex-partner, not cause harm.
The court called the act “ludicrous, irresponsible, stupid and childish,” noting the extreme danger posed by using such a large vehicle in a personal dispute.
He was also ordered to undergo six months of mental health treatment.
