Uttar Pradesh’s Class 12 students will, for the first time, be able to retake one subject to improve their marks, following government approval of a new improvement exam. The change, effective for the 2026 board exams, applies to 2.58 million students and aims to help those who passed but want better scores. Applications will open after results are released in late April. The move builds on a 2020 compartment exam system for students who failed one subject. Strict security measures remain in place during the Holi festival to protect exam materials.
