Scotland approves restricted access for a £450M Center Parcs near Hawick, set to open in 2029.
Scottish ministers have approved a bylaw restricting public access on land near Hawick for a £450 million Center Parcs holiday village, clearing a major hurdle for the project.
The decision, effective April 2026, allows the development to proceed with a fenced site and controlled entry, following consultations and assurances that impacts on public access can be mitigated.
The park, set to open in summer 2029, will be the first Center Parcs in Scotland and is expected to create around 1,200 permanent jobs, boosting the local economy.
While access advocacy groups raised concerns about setting a precedent, officials deemed the case exceptional and necessary for the project’s business model.
