Russia foils suicide bombing in Yekaterinburg targeting defense executive; suspect, allegedly recruited by Ukraine, died in remote detonation.
Russia’s FSB says it thwarted a suicide bombing plot in Yekaterinburg targeting a defense industry executive, killing a Russian man in his early 40s who was allegedly recruited by Ukrainian intelligence.
The suspect, using a fake passport, had rented an apartment and carried two improvised explosive devices.
When confronted by security forces, a Ukrainian handler remotely detonated one bomb, killing him; a second device was safely disabled.
Russian officials claim Ukraine is increasingly using such tactics, recruiting Russians through financial incentives or scams to carry out attacks, allowing them to eliminate targets while ensuring the agent’s death and avoiding capture.
No one else was injured.
