Eurostat reported euro area inflation rose to 1.9% in February 2026, up from 1.8% in January, driven by stronger service price increases at 3.4%. Food, alcohol, and tobacco inflation held steady at 2.6%, while non-energy industrial goods rose to 0.7% from 0.4%. Energy prices fell 3.2% annually, a smaller drop than January’s 4.0%. The HICP now uses a 2025=100 reference and updated classification, with data from January 2026 onward based on the EA21 series using a chain index method. The full data was released on March 3, 2026, and is expected to influence ECB policy expectations.
