Developers seek to remove a large tree to build seven homes in Orange, NSW, sparking debate over tree preservation and development rules.
Developers in Orange, NSW, have applied to build seven single-storey homes on vacant land at 107A Autumn Street, proposing to remove a two-storey tree for a two-way driveway.
They argue the tree’s retention would hinder access and that it adds little to the streetscape or property value, claiming no arborist assessment is needed.
The project, which includes two two-bedroom and five three-bedroom units with private outdoor space, faces scrutiny under the Orange Development Control Plan 2004, which requires major trees be retained when possible.
Public comments are open until March 17 via the Orange City Council website.
