David Marvin Blake Jr. sentenced to 15 years to life for 2022 fatal shooting of unarmed Julio Moises Cardoza Jr. in Downey, California.
David Marvin Blake Jr., son of hip-hop producer DJ Quik, was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for second-degree murder in the 2022 fatal shooting of 20-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr. in Downey, California.
The Los Angeles County judge, noting Blake had no prior record and expressing remorse, dismissed firearm enhancements that could have extended the sentence.
The shooting occurred on May 25, 2022, when Blake and former Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan visited Cardoza’s home, leading to a confrontation during which Blake fired from his vehicle, claiming he feared for his life.
Cardoza was unarmed at the time.
Blake was arrested the following day and convicted in December.
He will become eligible for parole after serving 15 years.
