On February 28, 2026, residents of Brantford, Ontario, held the first workshop for the Brantford Poppy Project, a community-led effort to create a public art installation honoring veterans using handmade poppies.
Organized by the Brant Station Neighbourhood Association, the event at the Thorpe Brothers Carriage House brought together people of all ages who knitted, crocheted, or assembled poppies from wool felt.
Supported by a $1,000 donation from the Dunsdon Legion, the project plans nine additional workshops from April to September and aims to display the final piece near the cenotaph or armouries, pending approval.
The initiative promotes intergenerational participation and remembrance through accessible craft activities, with resources available for schools and seniors’ homes.
