Australian clean-tech firm PlasmaLeap secures $20M to scale zero-emission on-farm fertilizer production using renewable energy.
PlasmaLeap Technologies, an Australian clean-tech company, has secured A$30 million (US$20 million) in Series A funding led by the Gates Foundation, Investible, and Yara Growth Ventures to advance its zero-emissions ammonia and nitric acid production technology.
The funds will support the rollout of on-farm fertiliser hubs in New South Wales and Tasmania, expand field trials, and scale its modular reactor system that uses only air, water, and renewable electricity.
The technology aims to decarbonize fertiliser production—a major source of global CO2 emissions—by enabling decentralized, low-cost manufacturing, reducing supply-chain risks, improving food security, and creating potential carbon credits.
With the global ammonia market projected to triple in value over the next two decades, the innovation targets growing demand for sustainable agricultural inputs and eFuels.
