A 12-year-old Zambian boy, Abel Mwansa Jr., was killed in a Feb. 10 shooting in British Columbia and is being buried in Zambia.
Abel Mwansa Jr., a 12-year-old boy from Zambia, will be buried in Kitwe on Monday after being among eight people killed in a Feb. 10 shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C.
His body was repatriated with support from Zambia, Canada, and local officials, arriving Saturday and met by a delegation including Zambia’s foreign minister and Canada’s chargé d’affaires.
The attack, carried out by Jesse Van Rootselaar, killed Abel, his mother, younger half-brother, five students, and an educational assistant.
The family had moved to Canada in 2023 for work.
The father expressed deep grief, saying he still cries and dreams of his son, while friends and community members remember him as respectful and responsible.
