Three top South African health officials arrested over R1M fraud linked to 2023 payments, case adjourned to June 3.
Three senior South African Department of Health officials were arrested on March 2, 2026, over allegations of fraud and theft involving over R1 million in improper payments made in 2023, violating the Public Finance Management Act.
The suspects, including the health director-general and two senior managers, appeared in Pretoria’s Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, were granted R10,000 bail each, and had their cases adjourned to June 3.
A company linked to one suspect was also charged as a juristic person.
A fourth suspect, the service provider and her company, remains at large.
The investigation, launched in April 2024 by the Hawks, is ongoing, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to fighting corruption in line with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2026 State of the Nation Address.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
