Queen’s student Cassie Porte leads Kingston’s first run to support children with childhood-onset rheumatic diseases.
Cassie Porte, a Queen’s University student diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis at 20 months, is leading Kingston’s first run to raise awareness and funds for childhood-onset rheumatic diseases.
Diagnosed after waking unable to walk, Porte’s journey inspired her family to launch Cassie and Friends in 2011, now a national nonprofit.
The March 7 event, organized with the Queen’s Rheumatic Disease Club, supports children and families affected by a condition often overlooked in pediatric care.
Despite limited research and treatment options, Porte continues advocating for better resources and community support.
