Ontario prosecutors seek to drop a 1986 sexual assault charge against 93-year-old Frank Stronach due to lack of evidence.
Prosecutors in Ontario have moved to withdraw a sexual assault charge against 93-year-old billionaire Frank Stronach, citing no reasonable prospect of conviction in a 1986 alleged incident. The decision follows the discovery of previously overlooked 2006 police notes contradicting the complainant’s testimony, which Stronach’s defense says undermines her credibility. The charge was the last remaining one involving this complainant, after a prior forcible confinement charge was dropped. Ontario Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy raised concerns about the fairness of the trial after a contentious cross-examination and the complainant’s distress. The court will address the request after the Crown completes its evidence. Stronach has pleaded not guilty to multiple historical allegations.
