Nigeria signs $1.3B deal to build alumina refinery, boosting GDP and economy.
Nigeria has signed a $1.3 billion agreement with the Africa Finance Corporation to develop a major alumina refinery, geoscience mapping, and a joint investment vehicle.
The refinery, using the Bayer process, will process one million tonnes of bauxite annually, operate at 95% capacity for 20 years, and produce 19 million tonnes of alumina.
The project is expected to boost Nigeria’s GDP by $1.2 billion yearly, inject over $25 billion into the economy, and generate $8 billion in foreign exchange.
All necessary approvals are in place to fast-track implementation, marking a key milestone in the government’s mining reform agenda.
