Melbourne signs 23-year-old forward Paddy Cross to replace retiring defender Steven May.
Melbourne has signed 23-year-old forward Paddy Cross from its VFL affiliate Casey to replace retired premiership defender Steven May, who played 251 AFL games and retired to support the club’s transition.
Cross, who kicked 24 goals in 18 VFL games and won Casey’s rising star award, earned a rookie list spot after impressing during summer training and overcoming injuries.
The signing, confirmed during the AFL’s supplemental selection period, fills the roster spot left by May’s retirement just before the 2026 season.
