A man attacked two police officers with an axe and a dog in south London, leading to his arrest and charges including attempted murder.
Stephen Coombes, 40, of Bermondsey, has been charged with attempted murder after attacking two police officers with an axe and a Cane Corso dog during a property visit in south London on March 1, 2026.
Officers responding to an ongoing investigation were bitten by the dog and one was struck with an axe; both were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and later discharged.
A third officer sustained a minor injury.
Coombes was arrested after being Tasered, and the dog was seized.
He also faces additional charges including unlawful dog control, a racially aggravated Public Order Act offence, and harassment.
He is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court.
