Lebanon’s government demands Hezbollah disarm after cross-border attacks sparked Israeli strikes.
Following cross-border attacks that prompted Israeli airstrikes, Lebanon's government, led by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, banned Hezbollah's military operations and demanded that the organization disarm and turn over weapons to the government.
The action, which was approved by 22 out of 24 cabinet members, represents a major step up in the fight against non-state armed groups and asserts state authority over both war and peace.
While the U.S. and Israel continue military operations amid escalating regional tensions, Israeli forces attacked Hezbollah targets in Beirut and southern Lebanon, killing important figures and issuing evacuation orders.
Hezbollah has not made a public response.
