French police arrested four Greenpeace activists blocking a ship carrying Russian uranium to Dunkirk port, amid protests over France’s continued nuclear trade with Russia despite the war.
French police arrested four Greenpeace activists on Monday for blocking the cargo ship Mikhail Dudin at the port of Dunkirk, alleging it was transporting Russian uranium for France’s nuclear power plants.
Around 20 protesters, some on kayaks, disrupted the ship’s unloading, displaying banners criticizing France’s continued nuclear trade with Russia’s Rosatom despite the war in Ukraine.
Greenpeace claims the ship has made over 20 round trips since 2022, and France imported at least 112 tonnes of enriched uranium from Russia in 2025—accounting for a quarter of its total imports.
Although France ordered EDF to halt the trade in 2022, the state-owned utility said in 2024 it would continue honoring a 2018 contract with Rosatom’s subsidiary Tenex.
France is now exploring building its own conversion facility to reduce reliance on Russia.
EDF did not comment on the protest.
