A Dutch museum confirms a 1633 painting, once doubted, is an authentic Rembrandt, verified by advanced analysis.
A Dutch museum has confirmed that Vision of Zacharias in the Temple, a 1633 painting previously rejected as inauthentic, is an authentic work by Rembrandt.
After two years of analysis using high-tech scans, pigment testing, and dendrochronology, experts verified the wood panel, materials, and brushwork match Rembrandt’s known techniques from his early Amsterdam period.
The painting, depicting the Archangel Gabriel’s appearance to high priest Zacharias, will go on long-term loan to the Rijksmuseum for public display.
The discovery, described as rare, adds to the estimated 350 confirmed Rembrandt works and fuels hope that more lost masterpieces may yet be found.
