Drake Clothing denies using unregistered sweatshops, calls liquidation bid baseless, and vows to fight the case.
Drake Clothing, a South African apparel supplier to major retailers, is resisting a court bid to liquidate it, denying allegations it uses unregistered sweatshops and "sham co-operatives" as claimed by the National Bargaining Council.
The company says it has no control over independent contractors, requires compliance declarations and audits, and was only linked to one of 11 cited manufacturers.
Drake argues the council should target non-compliant factories directly, not the supplier, and disputes evidence from inspections, attributing branded packaging to recycled materials.
It claims the legal action has damaged its reputation and business, asserts it remains solvent, and plans to seek damages.
The case continues.
Drake Clothing niega el uso de talleres de explotación no registrados, llama a la licitación de liquidación sin fundamento, y jura luchar contra el caso.
