A Canberra man was convicted on March 2, 2026, of multiple violent crimes against a woman held captive and assaulted in 2024.
Sisituutuumata Fulivai, 46, was found guilty on March 2, 2026, by an ACT Supreme Court jury of multiple charges including violent assault, forcible confinement, and sexual intercourse without consent.
The victim, found naked and screaming in Lyneham in June 2024, testified she was held captive for several days, beaten, raped, and threatened with a knife and casserole dish.
Prosecutors presented evidence including 52 injuries, DNA matches, and consistent testimony.
Fulivai denied all charges, claiming self-defense and alleging the victim fabricated the story, but the jury found his account implausible and returned guilty verdicts on all counts after less than a day of deliberation.
He remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
