A Palau-flagged oil tanker was attacked near Oman, injuring four crew, amid rising regional tensions after U.S.-Israel strikes in Iran.
On March 1, 2026, the Skylight, a Palau-flagged oil tanker, was attacked about 5 nautical miles north of Khasab Port, Oman, injuring four crew members and resulting in the safe evacuation of all 20 crew, including 15 Indians and five Iranians. The incident, which occurred near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is the first time targets near Oman have been hit during escalating regional hostilities following joint US-Israeli strikes in Iran that reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and other senior officials. Iran responded by launching missile and drone attacks on Gulf states, including a separate drone strike on Duqm port, which injured one worker. The US-sanctioned tanker, part of a shadow fleet transporting Iranian oil, had been anchored in Musandam since February 22. No group has claimed responsibility, and the source of the attack is unknown.
