Garda vehicles written off in crashes in Ireland surged 170% in 2025, with 41 vehicles deemed beyond repair compared to 15 in 2024, according to data obtained by TD Aidan Farrelly.
The west Dublin Metropolitan region saw the most incidents, followed by Cork city and the Waterford-Kilkenny division.
Many crashes were linked to high-speed pursuits.
So far in 2026, 56 vehicles have been in collisions, six of which were written off.
The rise has raised concerns over police operational safety, vehicle durability, and long-term fleet planning, especially as Ireland prepares for its EU presidency.
