Bangladesh to create permanent fire and civil defense units at key sites, including airports and refugee camps, after a major airport fire.
Following a major fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced plans to establish permanent Fire Service and Civil Defence units at all international airports, the Prime Minister's Office, Rohingya refugee camps, and other critical sites.
Directives have been issued to build fire stations, ensure 24/7 staffing, and expand coverage to 27 upazilas lacking services, with recruitment for 250 firefighter and driver positions to begin.
Special stations will also be built in Economic Processing Zones and Cox's Bazar camps to improve disaster response.
The move aims to strengthen emergency preparedness nationwide.
