Ahmad Vahidi named IRGC commander after U.S.-Israeli strikes killed Iran’s top leaders, sparking regional escalation.
Following the reported assassinations of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military officials in joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes codenamed "Operation Epic Fury," Ahmad Vahidi was appointed commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
Vahidi, a former commander of the Quds Force and Iran's defense and interior minister, has been wanted by Interpol since 2007 due to alleged involvement in the 1994 AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires that claimed 85 lives.
The strikes have increased regional tensions, leading to missile exchanges and diplomatic repercussions, and they have caused widespread explosions throughout Iran and nearby areas, such as Dubai and Pakistan.
