A 2-year-old goldendoodle was abandoned at Las Vegas airport after its owner couldn’t rebook a flight, leading to charges and eventual adoption by the responding officer.
A 2-year-old goldendoodle named JetBlue was abandoned at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport on February 2 after its owner, Germirah Hobbs of Virginia, left the dog tethered at a ticket counter when she couldn’t rebook her flight due to missing paperwork.
The dog, claimed as a service animal but unregistered, was found by airport staff and turned over to police, who charged Hobbs with animal abandonment and other offenses.
After 10 days without her returning, JetBlue was transferred to Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas and later adopted by the officer who responded to the scene, who now considers him a family member.
The incident drew national attention, with many offering to adopt the dog, but the officer was praised for providing a permanent home.
Hobbs could not be reached, and it was unclear if she had legal representation.
