Wisconsin’s 2026 elk season runs Oct. 17–Dec. 13; applications open March 1, with higher quotas and new education requirements.
The Wisconsin DNR has announced the 2026 elk hunting season will run continuously from October 17 to December 13, replacing the previous split-season format.
Applications open March 1 and close May 31, with increased quotas: six bull and six antlerless elk in the Central Zone, and eight bull elk in the Northern Zone, pending Ojibwe tribal input.
Residents can apply online or in person for a $10 fee per license type, with selected hunters required to complete an elk hunter education course.
A $49 license fee applies if chosen.
