A Wiltshire farm restored 56 hectares into diverse habitats, planting 2,600 trees and generating biodiversity units under UK law.
A Wiltshire farm has launched a 56-hectare ecological restoration project at Stonehill Habitat Bank, transforming degraded pasture into diverse habitats like grasslands, scrub, and woodland to support endangered species.
Over 2,600 native trees have been planted, and low-intensity grazing will maintain chalk downland.
The initiative, led by farmers Sonja and Perin Dineley with environmental partners, aligns with the UK’s Biodiversity Net Gain policy, generating legally protected Biodiversity Units through a 30-year management plan secured via a Section 106 agreement with Wiltshire Council.
The site is now open to the public with new signage, aiming to educate visitors and diversify farm income while advancing ecological recovery.
