On International War Animal Day, 87-year-old Chelsea Pensioner Roy Palmer honored animals that served in war during a visit to Cotswold Wildlife Park, sharing their stories and announcing a 1,000-mile cycling journey for peace in memory of his late wife, Muriel.
The event, held at the park which once served as a WWII military site, featured animals wearing purple poppies, a symbol of remembrance, and included an impromptu talk by Palmer.
His ride, set for May, will support the War Horse Memorial and animal sanctuaries.
The day, now an annual observance across the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and France, commemorates the millions of animals that served in conflicts, particularly the over 16 million in World War I.
