Twenty-seven Michigan school districts received nearly $44 million in final funding from the state’s Clean Bus Energy Grant program, part of a $125 million initiative to replace aging diesel buses with 99 electric and 10 propane-powered models.
The program, authorized under the 2024 State School Aid Act, aims to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and support student health and safety.
Since launch, it has helped retire 376 diesel buses and deploy 376 clean buses statewide.
Funds were distributed in February, with grants supporting lower maintenance costs, quieter rides, and progress toward state climate and education goals.
