St. Catharines secured a vacant former YMCA building after developer Atria failed to fix safety issues despite a court-ordered deadline.
The City of St. Catharines boarded up the vacant former YMCA building near Fairview Mall after Atria Development failed to comply with a property standards order to secure the site.
The order, issued in December 2023 following a break-in and unsafe conditions, was upheld despite an appeal and a requested extension.

With no appeal filed by February 23, city crews sealed all entry points from February 24–25, and costs will be billed to the property.
