Rochester seeks $8.7M approval to rebuild 6th Ave West as a safer, multi-use corridor with bike lanes, wider sidewalks, and green spaces, starting construction in 2027.
The City of Rochester is seeking City Council approval for an $8.7 million project to rebuild 6th Avenue West from West Circle Drive to 2nd Street Southwest, transforming it into a multi-modal corridor with two traffic lanes, dedicated bike lanes, wide sidewalks, landscaped boulevards, and space for outdoor gatherings.
The "Reimagining 6th Avenue West" plan, developed over years following the removal of 3rd and 4th Avenues as through routes, incorporates public input and aims to improve safety, connectivity, and urban livability.
If approved, the city will move to final design and bidding, with construction expected to begin in spring 2027.
Funding covers both design and construction phases.
