Pakistani forces raided the home of UK-based Sindh activist Muhammad Usama Soomro’s family in Karachi, allegedly without a warrant, detaining relatives and seizing documents.
The ancestral home of Muhammad Usama Soomro, the UK-based coordinator of Pakistan’s Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement, was allegedly raided late February 26 in Karachi by 10 to 15 masked, heavily armed personnel believed to be linked to Pakistani intelligence agencies.
The raid, which occurred without a warrant around 11:30 PM, involved a search of the residence, intrusive searches of women, and the alleged desecration of a photograph of Sindhi nationalist leader G. M. Syed.
Family members say officials accused Soomro of working against Pakistan, demanded access to political documents, and took cash and important papers, warning his family of serious consequences if he does not cease activism and surrender within a month.
No official statement has been issued by Pakistani authorities, and the incident has raised concerns about due process, civil liberties, and the targeting of relatives of political figures abroad.
The family continues to seek safety assurances.
