Didcot and Wantage MP Olly Glover is pushing for major rail improvements, urging the UK government to adopt a 'passengers-first' approach focused on affordability, accessibility, and reliability. Speaking during the Railways Bill's committee stage, he highlighted the need for basic amenities like working toilets, Wi-Fi, mobile signal, and space for luggage and bikes as essential, not luxuries. Glover called for better compensation when services fail and introduced Liberal Democrat amendments, including a Passengers’ Charter, a 'rails to trails' initiative, new rules on audio devices, a decarbonisation framework, and a rail miles loyalty scheme. The bill returns to the House of Commons for its report stage soon.
