MP Materials picks Texas for $1.25B rare earth magnet plant, backed by $400M in defense funding.
MP Materials selected Northlake, Texas, for its $1.25 billion 10X rare earth magnet manufacturing campus, a key part of a U.S. Department of Defense public-private partnership aimed at reducing reliance on foreign supply chains.
The facility, expected to begin commissioning in 2028, will boost annual NdFeB magnet production to 10,000 metric tons, support critical tech sectors, and create over 1,500 jobs.
The project is backed by $400 million in Defense Department investment, state and local incentives totaling $200 million, and strategic agreements with Apple, General Motors, and an unnamed OEM.
MP also reported strong fourth-quarter results driven by a U.S. government price support agreement, record rare earth oxide output, and progress in domestic magnet production, though revenue fell short of expectations.
The company aims to reach a 4,000-ton annual production run rate by year-end 2026, with further growth expected in 2027.
