Montenegro has signed a 693.9 million euro contract with Chinese consortium PowerChina-Stecol to build the 22-kilometer Matesevo-Andrijevica segment of the Bar-Boljare highway, funded by a mix of EBRD loan, EU grant, and national budget.
The project, set to begin in late April and take five years, includes 36 bridges and tunnels, with a 100 km/h speed limit.
It aims to boost northern Montenegro’s economy and regional connectivity, following criticism of the first phase.
Construction will be overseen by Montenegro’s state road agency Monteput, with Chinese firms handling execution despite Western financial support.
