KVS launches Tamil-medium pilot in Tamil Nadu schools amid teacher and continuity concerns.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has launched a pilot program to use Tamil as a medium of instruction in select schools in Tamil Nadu, starting with KV Sowripalayam.
The move, prompted by a January 2026 request from activist V. Eswaran over inconsistent Tamil teaching, aims to assess feasibility amid concerns about teacher shortages and educational continuity for mobile families.
KVS schools, serving children of central and defense personnel, are special category institutions under the RTE Act.
The pilot’s outcome will determine future expansion of regional language instruction across KVs, with activists praising the step as progress toward mother-tongue-based learning.
