Kolkata launches all-women 'Pink Booths' and mobile patrols to boost women's safety, building on its status as India’s safest major city.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched 'Pink Booths' and 'SHINING' mobile patrols in Kolkata to enhance women’s safety, with all-women booths operating from evening to midnight at key intersections and patrols covering major roads from 8 pm to 2 am.
The initiatives support Kolkata’s ranking as India’s safest major city, according to the 2023 NCRB report, which showed the lowest cognisable crime rate among 19 large cities and the third-lowest rate of crimes against women.
Officials attribute the city’s safety to improved infrastructure, technology, increased police presence, and community cooperation.
