Malcolm Fairley, known as "The Fox," terrorized communities in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire during the mid-1980s, committing a series of violent home invasions involving sexual assaults and psychological torture.
He bound couples, forcing husbands to witness the rape of their wives, and used hidden spaces in homes to prepare for attacks.
The investigation, led by Detective Chief Superintendent Brian Prickett, involved hundreds of officers and relied on forensic evidence, leading to Fairley’s arrest in 1984 and conviction on 81 charges.
He received six life sentences and died in prison on May 28, 2024, at age 71.
Prickett, who remained opposed to any release, emphasized the lasting trauma inflicted on victims.
The case stands as one of Britain’s most disturbing criminal histories.
