First Nations chiefs in Alberta unanimously reject Premier Smith’s government over treaty breaches and separatist rhetoric.
First Nations chiefs from Treaty 6, 7, and 8 in Alberta have unanimously passed a non-confidence motion against Premier Danielle Smith’s UCP government, citing failures to uphold treaty obligations and growing separatist rhetoric.
The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs condemned the government’s approach to Indigenous rights and its support for Alberta’s independence movement, calling it unconstitutional and harmful.
They urged all Alberta MLAs to formally initiate a non-confidence vote.
The Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation endorsed the motion, stressing that treaty rights are constitutionally protected and cannot be overridden by provincial politics.
The UCP has not responded publicly.
