Cole Bassett, a 24-year-old midfielder from Littleton, Colorado, returns to his hometown as he plays for the Portland Timbers against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

He earned praise from Timbers coach Phil Neville after an assist in Portland’s 3-2 season-opening win over Columbus.
The Timbers are off to a strong start with a 1-0-0 record.
In contrast, the Rapids opened their season with a 2-0 loss to Seattle, continuing struggles from last year when they missed the playoffs despite a 41-point finish.
New coach Matt Wells acknowledged the team is adjusting to his system, noting strong possession—58.8%—but poor precision in attack and decision-making under pressure.
