Johnston County commissioner candidate Chad Stewart, 55, was arrested Friday in Four Oaks after being charged in a Thursday evening hit-and-run involving a stopped school bus. The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. on East Sanders Street when a Chevrolet Corvette struck the bus from behind, then fled the scene. Video footage and evidence led to an arrest warrant. Stewart faces misdemeanor charges including failure to stop for a stopped school bus and hit-and-run resulting in property damage. No injuries were reported among the seven students on board. The bus sustained about $1,000 in damage, the Corvette about $10,000. Stewart was released on a $20,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 10.
