Balochistan High Court suspends Mines and Minerals Act over provincial rights concerns.
The Balochistan High Court has suspended the Mines and Minerals Act pending further review, ordering the provincial government to respond by next week’s hearing.
The court, led by Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mullahkhail and Justice Najmuddin Mengal, expressed concern over the government’s failure to file a reply despite months passing.
The suspension halts all mineral allotments under the law, following petitions arguing it undermines provincial control over natural resources and conflicts with constitutional amendments.
Former senator Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani and legal advocates called the decision a significant victory for Balochistan’s rights, criticizing political parties for not fulfilling prior commitments to review the act.
The case remains under active consideration.
