Alaska bans AI-generated child sexual abuse material, fines companies $1M, and restricts minors’ social media use.
The Alaska House unanimously passed House Bill 47, banning AI-generated child sexual abuse material and synthetic sexual images of real people without consent, treating the former as seriously as real abuse.
It imposes $1 million fines on AI companies enabling such content and restricts minors’ social media use with rules like parental permission, full parental access, and a 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. curfew.
The bill, inspired by Utah and Mississippi laws, aims to protect youth from predatory behavior and addictive algorithms, though concerns remain over enforcement, free speech, and circumvention via tools like VPNs.
It now moves to the Senate.
