The UK government is investing £4 million in NHS electric vehicle charging infrastructure, bringing total funding to £22 million, to support electrification of the health service’s 20,000-vehicle fleet.
The initiative, part of the Department for Transport’s Chargepoint Accelerator Scheme, will install hundreds of new chargers, decarbonizing 460 million miles of annual travel and saving millions in fuel and maintenance costs.
These savings are expected to be reinvested in frontline patient care.
The move supports broader UK efforts to expand EV infrastructure, including a £600 million chargepoint rollout and expanded grants, while improving data transparency on charging capacity.
The NHS has also seen a 2.8% productivity gain, exceeding its annual target.
